George Rodrigue Gallery, Carmel
About the Rodrigue Studio, Carmel
The original gallery opened in 1991 and was called Galerie Blue Dog. It was located on the south side of 6th between Lincoln and Dolores. The gallery was tiny and narrow, located in the former office of a local doctor. From those humble beginnings, and with the help of friends, word started to spread.
In 1992, the Wall Street Journal published a sketch of the Blue Dog on the front page of the newspaper. By 1993 the Blue Dog and George Rodrigue were famous and known throughout the country.
In 1998 George Rodrigue changed the name of the gallery from Galerie Blue Dog to Rodrigue Studio. And in 2009 he relocated the gallery from the tiny doctor’s office to its present location on the west side of Dolores, between Ocean Avenue and 7th. The Blue Dog welcomes you from the front window. Meander down the charming stone pathway to enter the studio and enjoy the work of this amazing artist.
