Forge in the Forest Carmel

Forge in the Forest, Carmel

About Forge in the Forest

Built in 1944, the Forge originally produced much of the hand-wrought iron that you still see adorning some of Carmel’s historic buildings.  The original anvil and hearth are still on display in the Forest Saloon.  John Steinbeck and artist/writer Henry Miller were frequent visitors to the Forge, where they would drink and tell stories with owner Francis Whitaker. In the mid 1960’s the Forge was turned into an artist’s studio, then in the fall of 1970 it became a restaurant. In 2013, new owners, the Profeta Family, rejuvenated the Forge, redesigning the Upper Patio and re-inspiring the lush gardens and outdoor fireplaces.

One of the best places to bring your pet, doggies have their own menu and they can invite their owners to join them on Dog Pound Patio.  Enjoy brunch, lunch, and dinner inside or on one of the beautiful patios and perhaps choose a bottle of wine from the selection in the 2,000 bottle wine cellar.
