Best Hotel Rewards Program Cypress InnCypress Inn Carmel has just given you another reason to love them.  They have joined nearly 200 boutique hotels around the country to offer one of the best hotel rewards programs for small, independent hotels. You can earn Stash Reward Points when you stay at this pet-friendly hotel in Carmel by-the-Sea California.

What the heck are Stash Points?

I wondered the same thing.  So I started out like any curious person would today, I went to Google.  Here’s what I found.  Stash is a hotel loyalty program that was created for independent hotels. You’re probably already familiar with those chain hotel loyalty programs like Marriott Rewards.  But what if you would prefer to stay at a more unique and charming hotel and you’d still love to collect some loyalty points that you could use when you travel?

That’s where Stash comes in.  They only partner with independent hotels, including small groups of hotels.  Each time that you book your reservation directly with one of these partner hotels you earn Stash Points. Currently you earn 5 points for every dollar you spend on your stay. There are some details attached to that, which you can read about on their website.

As you accumulate Stash Points, you can use them to get free rooms at other Stash partner boutique hotels.  U.S. News Travel 2015/16 rated Stash in the top 18 for the best hotel rewards programs.(

Why Should You Sign Up for Stash Points?

That’s a great question.  I had the same one!  I definitely don’t need another “Rewards Card” in my wallet.  And I’m certainly not going to pay some annual fee to become a member.

Best Hotel Rewards Program StashAs I discovered, the good news is, you don’t need a ‘Rewards Card’ for your wallet.  In fact, you don’t get one!  You just go to and enter your email to sign up.  I tried it.  It’s actually very simple. Then, when you want to book a hotel, go to, find the hotel you want, and make your reservation using the same email you used to sign up.  It’s about the easiest reservation system I have seen because Stash connects you directly to the hotel to make your reservation.  Just give the hotel that same email address and your Stash account is automatically credited.  Nice.

(But don’t sign up yet. Read on to learn how you can instantly get 1,000 bonus points when you sign up through our special link)

There is no fee to become a member, signing up takes about a minute, and they don’t spam you to death.  I hate spam!  I’ve been signed up for a couple of months now and I get occasional emails from Stash with special offers from some of their hotels.

Some Important Fine Print About This Best Hotel Rewards Program

I tend to be analytical.  Annoying?  Yes.  Useful?  You bet!  So I wanted to understand the fine print.  What caught my eye was who can book a room and collect Stash points.  If you are the Stash member, you need to book the room and then pay for the room in person.  It’s OK to book two rooms, one for you and one for your kids, for example.  But you (the Stash member) need to pay for those rooms.

To collect your Stash points, be sure to book your room directly through each Stash hotel member.  Don’t use sites like Expedia, or other discount sites.

Other fine print.  The Stash points are based on the room rate, not tax, not sundries, not meals, etc.  Not a big deal, but good to know.

Why Did the Cypress Inn Carmel Become a Partner

Cypress Inn Carmel already has an amazing reputation.  It’s co-owned by actress Doris Day and Dennis LeVett. It enjoys a loyal following of travelers who bring their pets.

Stash gives the Cypress Inn the opportunity to connect with other travelers around the world who value the opportunity to stay at a unique hotel, while earning hotel points.  And because Stash has a special listing of hotels that are devoted to pet-friendly travelers, Cypress Inn Carmel can reach new travelers who would enjoy spending time in the #1 pet-friendly city in the U.S. at the #1 pet friendly hotel.  With more than 350,000 Stash-member travelers, it only makes sense to become a partner.  The beauty of this partnership is that it not only benefits Cypress Inn Carmel, it also brings new travelers to Carmel by-the-Sea.

Crystal Petersson, General Manager of Cypress Inn commented,

“Stash is the perfect partner for Cypress Inn, because the program highlights the uniqueness and individuality of our property, and helps us stand out from the cookie-cutter chain properties.  We like that Stash allows us to reward our guests for their  continued loyalty and exposes the hotel to members who may not be familiar with the Cypress Inn – but should be.  We think this is the best hotel rewards program for boutique hotels.”

Why Do I Love the Cypress Inn Carmel?

Best Hotel Rewards Program Cypress Inn Living RoomIf you live in Carmel by-the-Sea, you already know about the Cypress Inn.  Built in 1929 on the site of the first art gallery in Carmel, the inn exudes charm.  A valet greets you at the street on Lincoln and welcomes you to the hotel. Inside you can check in while enjoying the inviting living room and large fireplace and memorabilia of Doris Day.  Stop by Terry’s Lounge for a drink or enjoy Yappy Hour from 4:30 to 6pm with your favorite 4-legged friend.  Your room also provides canine comfort with doggie beds and water bowls or you can relax on the patio with your pooch and savor a drink.  While Fido is welcome, the Cypress Inn especially caters to pleasing their 2-legged guests with soothing interior colors, cozy robes, and amenities that will leave you saying, “Ahhhhhh”.

I live less than two blocks from the Cypress Inn.  I walk by nearly every day. The minute you enter the hotel you sense part of Carmel’s history.  Colorful blue and gold tiles line the steps leading to the 44 guest rooms. People sit at the cozy tables sharing a laugh as small or large furry friends curl up at their feet.  It’s definitely not a place where you’ll see people aimlessly texting away the morning.  The sun filters in from the courtyard and highlights posters of Doris Day, Rock Hudson, and Jack Lemmon.  It’s a perfect example of what makes boutique hotels so special and inviting.

But don’t get too comfy!  The Cypress Inn Carmel is right in the heart of downtown Carmel, so plan to do some shopping, dining at fabulous restaurants, and wine tasting at any of the nearly 20 wine tasting rooms.  Or plan your golf outing at Pebble Beach or Spanish Bay with the help of the courteous staff at the Inn.

Don’t forget, when you check in, be sure to mention that you are signed up for Stash!  After all, you can use those Stash points for a future visit.  It’s what makes Stash one of the best hotel rewards programs around.
